there have been some changes between 6.3 and 7.2. Perhaps some of them affect the speed. But not necessarily.

Have you tried to test on 8.0? Can you confirm you get the same results?

If yes, please, add the details of this installation - server specs, network specs, how many sites, how many users (and what kind), client OS, and anything that you feel would matter.
